  About the Author

Jane Begley is passionate about the natural world and how the earth and life on earth came to be here.

She believes that if we all cared for the world and cared about the people who live here, then the world could be a peaceful and loving place.

  About the Book

Why are we the only planet with life in a vast universe? How did we come to be here, a world so unique, so full of natural wonders, so full of amazing creatures that exist side by side, supporting the whole eco system so perfectly?

Surely, we are the guardians of this amazing world, perhaps we all have a purpose, a reason for being here.

It is such a pity that so many of us do not see this amazing world but see only what we want to see.

These poems take people on a journey of exploration. They look at all the unexplained theories of how the world and the people who live here came into being.

  A Better Place to Live

We live in a world of ups and downs

And where we live can determine how we live

Some countries are at peace and some full of conflict

Some have high standards of living and some live in poverty

How strange it is that some people cannot see the bigger picture

They see only what they are told to see and ignore how they really feel

How can anyone not want to feel love

How can anyone not want a better life

To feel happy and content and to feel good about themselves

To see the beauty that is in the world

And want to live in peace and prosperity

Perhaps if we all looked inside ourselves

We would have a better place to live.

  Jane Begley

  Are We Happy

What is it that makes us happy

Sometimes if we are not happy

We need to ask ourselves why

Are we happy with who we are

Do we have a purpose in our lives

Something to aim for and hope for

Do we feel good about ourselves

About how we look and who we are

Everyone needs a balance to be happy

A balance of exercise, good food and looking good

If we are healthy and full of energy

If we look at our lives and see what we feel

Then we can start to become aware of all that we need

Then the universe will bring us all that we need

All that we need to be happy again.

  Jane Begley

  As Winter Approaches

There is a different kind of energy in the air

Birds are seen flying around in groups

Searching for food to keep them going through winter

Others not generally seen in summer suddenly appear

Taking every opportunity to stock up for winter

The trees and the plants are conserving their energy

Losing their leaves and seeming to return to the earth

There is a feeling of everything gradually slowing down

It is this feeling that we also seemingly inherit from the earth

As the days get shorter, we spend more time at home

Enjoying the comfort and warmth, conserving some energy

So we can make the most of the spring and summer to come.

  Jane Begley

  Holding on to Life

Life can be so different for each and every person

We live on the same planet in the same world

Yet every country and even different parts of the same country

Live completely different lives in every way

What is it that makes our lives so different

We are all born the same, or are we!

Is it purely the way that we are brought up

The things we are told when we are young

Or does our spirit determine who we are

Does our spirit choose where and to whom it goes

For a particular reason unknown to us

Do we have a particular task to undertake

If this is the case, if we came here for a reason

Why is it that some of us do not know or remember

What we are supposed to be doing

While others know exactly why they are here

It is a strange and complicated world

And there are a lot of things we do not know or understand

Things that cannot be explained by science

Things that perhaps we are never meant to know!

  Jane Begley

  How Did We Get Here

No one really knows for sure how humans came to be here

Did we all evolve from apes or was there some kind of outside help

Why did evolution of animals and living things suddenly stop

Perhaps it was thought that everything was as it was supposed to be

And humans were evolved enough to take care of all the rest

They had enough of everything to make a good life for all

Their brains were evolved to know what was right and wrong

To know how to love and care for each other and the planet

It should have been a perfect place to live!

  Jane Begley

  How Long Can We Live
in Hope

Every day there seems to be a new disaster

We hear about the atrocities of terrorists

The unspeakable acts of fanatical groups

Have we gone back to the dark ages

Where control over others was the norm

But thank God these people are a minority

Thank goodness there are many, many more

Who work tirelessly to right all the wrongs

Who care about others and care about the world

How far we have come and yet sometimes

It appears we have come too far too soon

We send rockets into space and people are starving

We seem to have forgotten how to take care of ourselves

Forgotten how to stay fit and healthy

Relying on others to do it for us

How can it be so difficult to know that our bodies need exercise

That our bodies need decent food and most of all, love

Surely it is only common sense, is this what we have lost

But let us not give up hope, hope that love will prevail over evil

Hope that the world will be a happy place for all of us one day.

  Jane Begley

How Long Will the World Last

The world is a tiny planet in a vast universe

The only planet that is full of wonder and delight

  Protected and surrounded from harm

The only living planet that has everything needed

To mature and grow and evolve

Why is it then that we do not understand

What an amazing planet it is

Why is it then that we do not see its beauty

Do not see that it needs to be nurtured and loved

Just as people need to be nurtured and loved

Are we too busy fighting amongst ourselves

Are we not aware of what is around us

Not aware of what is happening to the world

Are we not listening to our hearts

Are we not connected to ourselves

When we listen only to what we are told

When we do not see what is in our hearts

We can never be happy and content

We cannot love and be loved

So we blame others for our discontent

So take a look around you and become aware

Aware of yourself, aware of the planet

And most of all, aware of love

Love makes the world go round

Without it, we will all perish and die.

  Jane Begley

  Keeping Us All Safe

Is there such a thing as a powerful Being, a so-called God

Something or someone out there somewhere

That helped to create this beautiful planet

Who is watching and listening to all that occurs

If there is such a person, what must he be thinking

What must he be feeling as he watches and listens.

  Jane Begley

  Life as We Know It

Some of us are happy and some of us are not

Some of us are healthy and some of us are not

Some of us are rich and some of us are not

What is it that gives us the life that we have

Is there something else that we all should be doing

Or are we doing what we are supposed to be doing

Are we aware of the life that we lead

Or do we go through life being unaware of who we are

Do we even know what we are doing wrong

Are we aware of how we could make things better

How we could start to feel healthy and happy

How we could start to know who we are

Start to enjoy what we have and all that the world has to offer.

  Jane Begley

  Life in the Fast Lane

Life for most people is lived in the fast lane

Getting up, going to work, coming home and going to bed

Our only relaxation is to sit in front of the television

Do we stop to think about the day or talk to our partners and children

Do we look around us at our surroundings or sense how we feel

Could we perhaps take a little time out to have cuddles and listen

Sometimes just giving someone your attention is all that is needed

To keep us all happy and connected to each other

We all need to be touched and we all need to be listened to

Little outings together to get out and about can make such a difference

Enjoying the pleasure of being together wherever it takes your fancy

Do not forget the pleasure you can get from being in the country

Living in the fast lane is all very well as long as we do not forget who we are

As long as we stay connected to each other and the place where we live

And do not forget, we all need to know we are loved and appreciated.

  Jane Begley

  Life Is Sometimes Hard

Sometimes our lives are not how we want them to be

Everything always seems to go wrong

We get stuck and can’t see any way out

We feel pain in our hearts and feel that something is missing

We ask ourselves what this life is all about

What an earth can we do to change the way we feel

Should we move house or change jobs

Get a new hobby or find a new friend

Perhaps life has some sort of plan for us

Perhaps it is better to wait for a sign

Wait for something to come our way

Something to tell us which way to go

Something or someone who will make us happy once more.

  Jane Begley

  Living Without Love

  When you have known love

When you have felt the touch of a lover

Known what it is like to feel so much love

Known what it is like to feel connected to someone

Experienced the fun and friendship that come with it

Experienced the sharing of life and the coming-together as one

How hard it is then to live alone and without it

Life is for living and loving and enjoying

So never give up hope that one day it will return

One day your heart will feel happy and light once again.

  Jane Begley

  Looking at the World

A tiny planet in a vast universe

Where did it come from do we really know

So many different theories and explanations

But none of them really proved conclusively

It is absolutely unique and the only one of its kind

Certainly the only one that we know of

Did it perhaps have a little help to evolve

In just the right way to create such a life

To create such a world as we see it today

A world full of such amazing sights and sounds

So diverse, so different wherever you are

From extreme heat to extreme cold and back again

What a pity it is that we do not treat it as we ought

What a pity that we do not see what is there

Living our lives never being aware it is living

Living and breathing full to the brim with life

Land and sea, sand and snow, sun and moon
